Development Workshop (Namibian NGO) COVID-19 RESPONSE – WINDHOEK
Sun, 30 Aug 2020
The Foundation approached the DWN, our partners on the Hepatitis E project regarding any plans they had to address the corona virus outbreak. The concern was that almost 50% of urban residents, or some 600 000 people live in informal settlements. These residents lack access to water and sanitation, have densities that make social distancing difficult, and are inhabited by residents that mostly have no resources that would allow them to stay at home for extended periods of time. Poster and pamphlets were designed on COVID-19 preventative measures, effective, safe and cheap hand washing the so called Tippy Taps were introduced. The handwashing kits (“tippy taps”) was distributed with 2-liter units of concentrated liquid soap together with installation guidelines. A total of 16 000 tippy taps have been installed in Windhoek servicing 48 000 households in four constituencies.
